SOLD: Very rare 1955 2cv Type AZ
This 2cv will make you smile. It is a 1955 2cv AZ and has been in our family for nearly forty years. In that time has taken us many happy miles, including to countless 2cv meetings both at home and abroad. It is therefore with a heavy heart that his delightful piece of history is now looking for a new home.
In full running and usable condition, and retains its original chassis, bodyshell, 425cc engine, gearbox and suspension.
Purchased new by a lady in central Paris in May 1955, this early 2cv is particularly unusual as it features the experimental 'resorts apparent' suspension springs, fitted for only a nine month period from September 1954 to June 1955. It also features a rare, period accessory enlarged boot conversion, with a metal lid replacing the simple canvas boot covering of the earliest cars. Other nice features include a speedometer from a Slough built 2cv being fitted, which is calibrated in MPH, the original ‘Baggage Maxi’ warning stencilled in the bootwell, petrol dipstick for the fuel tank ,and original 16" wheels with excellent Michelin 125/400 tyres.
This 2cv is complete and entirely roadworthy, starts on the button, runs like a swiss watch and rides in that uniquely comfortable way that only an early 2cv can.
Whilst in no way concours, it proudly wears its history on its sleeve and every panel tells its own tale of nearly seventy years on the road. During our family’s ownership the car has been well looked after and in 2005 underwent a general refresh and tidy up in preparation for the World Meeting in Kelso. There is a folder of general history and photos of the car, as well as evidence of its original Paris registration number.
Viewing is highly recommended to fully appreciate this 2cv, and more information & photos are available on request.
